Dodgers Nation Poll Results: Approval Ratings Rise as Wins Stack Up

In continuation of our Twitter polls, we have asked fans about their approval of the Dodgers throughout the season. In our last post, we evaluated fan’s opinions about Dave Roberts, the offense, the starting rotation, the bullpen and the front office. We asked fans again on Twitter about their approval heading into the middle of June.

Dave Roberts

In our poll from May 22, only 40% approved of the Dodger skipper. Over the past weeks, Dave Roberts’ approval rating has increased gradually from 59 percent a week ago to now close to 70 percent.

The rising approval rating for Roberts coincides with the Dodgers recent winning. Back when we did the poll on May 22, the Dodgers had a 21-27 record. They are now over .500 and are in striking distance of first place.

The Offense

Just as Dave Roberts’ approval rating is on the rise, so is the approval rating of the Dodgers offense. Back on May 22, most fans gave the Dodger bats a grade of a C, and over one-third of voters claimed the offense had failed.

Of late, the Dodgers offense is on a tear, especially with the long ball. Since the start June, the Dodgers lead all of baseball with 26 home runs less than two weeks into the month. During the month, the Dodgers also lead the league in runs (72) and OPS (.966).

The Starters

The starting rotation remains the greatest area of skepticism for Dodgers fans. Over the last few polls, a vast majority of fans have given the rotation a grade of B or C.

Over the past few weeks, the Dodgers have lost Clayton Kershaw, Kenta Maeda and Dennis Santana to injuries. They currently stand with a rotation of Alex Wood, Walker Buehler and Ross Stripling. While the latter two have pitched lights out, the low grade for the rotation stems out of their inability to stay healthy.

The Bullpen

With the starting rotation dealing with injuries, the bullpen is trending upwards in its approval ratings. In May, 90 percent of fans gave the relieving corps a grade of a C or F. Now, over 40 percent of fans grade the bullpen of B.

The bullpen has stepped up its game in recent weeks. They are averaging over five innings per game for the month and the bullpen has started three of the nine games so far in June.

The Front Office

A few weeks ago, more than half of our fans disapproved of the front office. As we progress in the year, fans are divided in their opinions of their work this year.

These updated results for the front office are an upgrade but less than one-third of fans approve of Andrew Friedman and Co. This displeasure coincides with the lack of depth in the starting rotation. With only three healthy starters, a move to acquire a big named starting pitcher may increase the fan’s approval of the front office.
