Dodgers News: 3 Top LA Prospects Playing in the Futures Game

The Dodgers should be well represented throughout the entire All-Star week. Fans are hoping to get a few of their players into the Mid-Summer Classic, and there is a chance that they could have a few guys starting. There is also some hope that they can get one of their starting pitchers to take the ball to get the game going.

But they will also have a few guys on the field for the Futures Game that will be played on July 16th at the stadium. And Dodgers fans should be very excited about some of the talent that will be on display for them.

Diego Cartaya

Cartaya is the Dodgers’ number 1 prospect for a reason. The potential for him is through the roof, and at just 20 years old, he’s impressing everyone in the organization. He’s hitting .318 for High-A Great Lakes, and he has already picked up 5 homeruns in 23 games played. He’s currently dealing with a hand injury he sustained last week though and has not played since exiting the contest.

Bobby Miller

Miller isn’t off to the best start in Double-A. But the Dodgers’ top pitching prospect is someone that fans in Los Angeles will be seeing soon in the coming years. With a fastball that tops out around triple-digits and a wipeout slider, Miller should be in that rotation sooner rather than later. He will get his chance to take the Dodger Stadium mound again in the Futures Game.

Miguel Vargas

Talk about power. Vargas has the potential to be a real threat in the Dodgers lineup as soon as this season. He has crazy good bat-to-ball skills which won him the batting title last season with Double-A Tulsa, and that could really help him transition to the big leagues. The only question around him at this point is his defense.
