Dodgers News: Alex Verdugo Collects First MLB Hit

In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, Alex Verdugo was able to collect his first hit in the majors! This came after going 0-3 with a walk in his MLB debut the night before.

The hit was a solid line drive to left field. Watch it here:

Verdugo would be picked off by Clayton Richard not too long after getting on base, unfortunately; however, what is important is that he got his first hit out of the way!

So far in his 3 games at the major league level, Alex Verdugo is 1-7 with 2 walks and 1 strikeout. What is important to note is that this isn’t just Verdugo getting his feet wet at the major league level. Dave Roberts told reporters that he is auditioning for the postseason roster!

That seems like a ton of pressure to put on the 21 year-old but he could be just what the Dodgers need. For a team that has so much depth, they lack an elite center-fielder.

Joc Pederson had his moments of brilliance this year, but his struggles have continued in triple-A where he holds a slash line of just .158/.222/.281. Chris Taylor has been out there quite a bit, but that seems mostly to make sure that his bat is in the lineup. Curtis Granderson could be an option, but his offense has been a bit lackluster with just 6 hits in 49 at-bats.

Alex Verdugo batted an impressive .305 in his career in the minor leagues, so the bat should come around once he gets settled in. His defense is also impressive, with Mike Petriello giving his arm a shoutout below.

Do you think that Alex Verdugo has a shot at making the postseason roster? Let us know in the comments below!
