Before the Los Angeles Dodgers took the field for their home opener, controversy began to hover what was an otherwise picturesque day. Matt Kemp was activated from the disabled list but not in the starting lineup, which according to reporters on hand, upset the center fielder.
The attention then quickly shifted away from Kemp when Yasiel Puig walked into the Dodgers clubhouse late. The late arrival led to Puig being scratched from the lineup, replaced by Kemp. Among those who were in support of Mattingly’s decision to bench Puig was Magic Johnson. Along with supporting Mattingly, Johnson also expressed hope that Puig would realize and capitalize on the opportunity that is available to him.
In an interview after the Dodgers’ loss, Puig took responsibility for arriving late and seemed remorseful for what occurred, which leads to hope he will learn from his latest mishap.
