Yasiel Puig took the Los Angeles Dodgers by storm close to a year ago when he made his major league debut in the most dominant way possible. Responsible for the Dodgers push to the playoffs last season, the 23-year-old right-fielder started the 2013 season in Double-A despite having an impressive spring training.
As Puig became a rookie sensation, there were many aspects about his life in Cuba that remained unknown to many. As the right fielder begun to receive death threats this season from Cubans in regards to his escape from his home country, his past has become a center piece of conversation as it has been so under wraps in the past. Because of the peaked interest, producer Brett Ratner and his company RatPac Entertainment acquired the rights to Jesse Katz’s recent article regarding his escape from Cuba. The movie will be produced alongside Beau Flynn Company.
Although no further details have been released about the film, baseball fans and Cubans will undoubtedly have peaked interest in the upcoming movie. Don Mattingly has remained fairly silent about his player’s past thus far, and the film will surely clear up details about Puig’s past that has remained unknown for so long.
