Welp, we have finally arrived Dodgers fans. After a long wait since Julio Urias threw that last pitch in the 2020 World Series, Opening Day is upon us. A long Spring Training is coming to an end as the boys head out to Colorado this week.
With that, let’s dive into some of the biggest news surrounding your Los Angeles Dodgers this past week!
The Dodgers and Dave Roberts appear to have made a decision on Joe Kelly and Brusdar Graterol. The two relievers had fallen way behind in Spring Training for their own reasons. Doc confirmed this week that both of them would start the year on the Injured List to make room for healthy arms.
Speaking of roster spots, Doc still has 2 more to get figured out. He revealed to media that he is deciding between a bench spot and a final bullpen spot before they can get to Opening Day and kick off the year.
One of those bullpens pieces will be Jimmy Nelson. After being added to the Dodgers 40-man roster, Dave Roberts said that Nelson will not start the year in the rotation. Instead, he will be an early relief option to start 2021.
Trevor Bauer has been going head-to-head with MLB for a long time. In the short time he has been with Los Angeles, Bauer has already publicly blasted them twice. Once for uniform rules and move recently their stance on the foreign substance plaguing bug league pitching.
Speaking of Bauer, Seattle manager Scott Servais might have a beef with him. Servais made fun of Bauer’s response when asked about getting hit hard by the Mariners in the last inning of his outing against them. Bauer has not commented on Servais’ response to him as of yet, but we can’t wait.
Dodgers fans are slightly worried about their closing situation with the way things have played out with Kenley Jansen in recent years. One MLB expert took that to the next level, predicting that Kenley would lose his closing job at some point in 2021.
Another MLB expert didn’t have kind things to say about Trevor Bauer. One writer from The Athletic predicted that the reigning Cy Young award winner would have a VERY down year in 2021 fresh off of a huge contract.
And finally, the Dodgers announced the new policy and procedures for returning to the ballpark in 2021. Among many things, fans will need to wear masks and cannot bring bags into Chavez Ravine.
