Dodgers News: BBWAA Announce End Of Season Award Schedule

While the Los Angeles Dodgers went 0-5 in NL Gold Glove awards on Tuesday night, the next schedule of awards were finally announced by the BBWAA (Baseball Writers Association of America) this morning.

Clayton Kershaw is likely to take home his second NL Cy Young award while Yasiel Puig and Hyun-Jin Ryu will be in contention for NL Rookie of the Year. Here’s the entire schedule of when the season-long awards will be announced as they’ll all be on MLB Network at 6 pm EST:

Don Mattingly could be a dark horse candidate for NL Manager of the Year, but Pirates manager Clint Hurdle is the favorite. Kershaw was once considered an MVP candidate, but Andrew McCutchen and Paul Goldschmidt are the two leading candidates.

If Kershaw wins the Cy Young like many project, he’d be only the second Dodger pitcher to win multiple Cy Young awards. Meanwhile, the Dodgers haven’t had a Rookie of the Year winner since since 1996 when they won five consecutive from 1992-96.

When he was called up on June 3 nobody knew what to expect from Puig, but he hit seven home runs in his first month as he became the most exciting young player in all of baseball. However, Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez is the likely win as he’s already been named the Sporting News Rookie of the Year.

Regardless, the Dodgers had a very successful season as Kershaw will likely take home the NL Cy Young award after leading the NL in both strikeouts and ERA.
