It was a wild week for the Dodgers as they headed out to the East Coast for a slate of games against the Phillies and Mets. Aside from several rain delays and some really hot weather, they also managed to take a few extra innings games for the first time in a while.
With that, let’s dive into some of the top headlines surrounding your favorite baseball team this week.
Trevor Bauer is still waiting on a decision from MLB as they investigate his assault case. The Dodgers hurler just had his administrative leave extended for another 7 days, and this could potentially be the last time it’s extended.
Clayton Kershaw was moved to the 60-day injured list this week, and that made fans a little nervous. But as we explained here, it wasn’t something that we all didn’t already know. The move allows for him to return in September still.
Speaking of injuries, Mookie Betts had to go back on the IL this week. But Dave Roberts revealed that Betts’ injury was looked at further and that it stems from a bone spur in one of his joints. It does NOT sound like it can be repaired without surgery, but that can wait until after the season…hopefully.
A very odd thing happened during the game this weekend when Dave Roberts sent Matt Beaty up to pinch hit. It resulted in Julio Urias coming out of the game early, but apparently, Doc didn’t mean for Beaty to go up. He explained further after the game, and it sounded like his mistake.
Remember that fan that took the field at Dodger Stadium last Sunday and got hit hard by the ball girl? He won’t be allowed at a Dodgers game anytime soon. Don’t be that guy.
And finally, a blown replay call by the umpiring crew prevent the Dodgers from earning a clean sweep on the road trip. Was it really the wrong call? We’ll let you decide.
