Dodgers News: Brian Wilson Throws Successful Simulated Game

The Dodgers bullpen has been solid during their 40-8 game stretch and it’s going to get stronger once they activate Brian Wilson off the disabled list.

Wilson has thrown scoreless innings between Single A and Triple A and is with the team in Philadelphia. While it was assumed that the Dodgers would activate Wilson today, Don Mattingly and the coaching staff wanted to take a look at him this afternoon.

According to Ken Gurnick of Dodgers.com, Wilson looked good and this could be the last step to his activation:

Wilson faced Nick Punto, Dee Gordon (before he was optioned) and Matt Kemp twice before finishing his 1.1 inning. With Gordon now at the minor league level and Scott Van Slyke recalled to provide outfield depth, the likely candidate to go down is Chris Withrow.

Don Mattingly has been particularly coy about when Wilson will be activated, but it’s assumed that he’ll be used in high leverage situations once he is. The bullpen has been incredible during the Dodgers surge atop the NL West and adding Wilson’s experience will be invaluable down the stretch.
