Dodgers News: Chris Taylor’s Role Will Change When He Returns

For the last couple of years, Dodgers fans have grown accustomed to players shifting all over the diamond. Defensive versatility has been something that Andrew Friedman and Dave Roberts are very high on, and that has resulted in a few names coming through the organization that can play all over.

But this year has a bit of a different feeling to it. The constantly changing lineups and batting orders are no more with the Dodgers. Instead, they’ve been able to play guys in their positions and not change things around too much. That includes Chris Taylor, who has spent every game in the outfield.

Originally, Roberts had said that CT was going to strictly play outfielder this season barring an injury to a player. But the Dodgers manager might have changed his opinion after Taylor’s foot fracture. When asked on Tuesday if the team had changed their thought process about him on defense, he had this to say.

“We have in the sense that a lot of it was driven by the elbow and giving it time to heal up. We just feel like he can handle the different arm angles from the infield and outfield, so having him taking grounders in the infield gives us more options. I just don’t think there is a lot of downside as far as having Chris getting re-familiarized with second base.”

Taylor had an elbow issue that required offseason surgery on it, leading the team to want his throwing path to be consistent. That took him out of play for the infield. But it sounds like the Dodgers feel like he is at a place now where he can handle that.
