Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Leaves Team, Heads Home to Texas

As the Dodgers complete a central states turn around, they do so without their ace around. Left-hander Clayton Kershaw, who’s on the injured list with a back issue, took the opportunity to leave the team and head home to Texas to spend time with his family while continuing his rehab.

Bill Plunkett of the OC Register was among those to report the news. As Bill notes, Kershaw will continue his throwing program in Texas before re-joining the team back in Los Angeles on Friday.

Kershaw has been on the IL since August 5th with a lower back issue. He had an epidural injection in the affected area and noticed near-immediate relief. Before heading down to Texas, he did take time to test where his pain level is by throwing on the side while the Dodgers were in Kansas City over the weekend.

The original timeline had Kershaw returning to the rotation some time early in September, which seems to still be on target.

Recently, the future Hall of Famer talked about where he was at in relation to the calendar and felt assured that he’ll be a full participant in the postseason.

In 15 starts, Kersh has gone 7-3 with a 2.64 ERA.

  1. Why not make Kershaw a Closer he would be able too throw for a few innings. For sure he can’t seem to make a whole game.
