Dodgers News: Cody Bellinger Placed on the Injured List

The Dodgers are going to have to get the next couple of wins this week without Cody Bellinger in the lineup. The All-Star outfielder sat out the last few games after being pulled on Friday night due to a hamstring issue.

Bellinger initially said that it was just a cramp, though the Dodgers and Dave Roberts later confirmed it was a little more serious. They had hoped that ti would clear up with some rest over the weekend, but it never did.

As a result of that, the Dodgers placed Cody Bellinger on the injured list today. The announcement was made right before first pitch against the Phillies on reopening night. Roberts had previously indicated over the last few days that a move would be possible if his condition did not improve. It obviously did not improve.

Before the game on Tuesday, Roberts confirmed that Bellinger would not play Wednesday either. The Dodgers get a day off on Thursday before heading out to Arizona for a series with the Diamondbacks starting Friday.

The Dodgers recalled Mitch White to take Bellinger’s spot on the roster. That part is interesting since right before the announcement, Roberts had said they would not bring on pitching help to supplement the bullpen.

The Dodgers backdated Bellinger’s injury to the Friday in which he initially hurt his hamstring. That means he is not eligible to come off the IL until after the Arizona series.
