Dodgers News: Cody Bellinger to Sit for a Mental Reset
The Dodgers have a few guys that seem to be turning a corner with the bat. After a VERY rough start to the year, Max Muncy is suddenly looking much more comfortable in the box. That has shown up in the results, hitting .385 for the month and launching 5 home runs.
But Cody Bellinger was also starting to show some signs of life. The Dodgers outfielder went 6-for-21 with 4 extra-base hits in the first 6 games of the month. But from there, he fell back off again. He has gone 0-for-7 in his last 2 games, striking out 4 times and looking pretty non-competitive.
That apparently spurred on a conversation with Dodgers coaches. That resulted in Bellinger sitting down for the middle games of the team’s series against the Brewers. Bellinger was not in the lineup on Tuesday night and is not expected to be in there Wednesday as well.
Cody Bellinger’s not in there today, and won’t be in there tomorrow, Dave Roberts said. Getting a “reset” after a meeting in the manager’s office postgame last night.

It sounds like the Dodgers are giving him those 2 games to reset mentally and get right. They can certainly afford to do that right now, especially after the addition of Joey Gallo. Chris Taylor got the start in centerfield in place of Bellinger last night.

It’s been a very tough season for Bellinger once again this year. He has posted a .661 OPS and has his batting average just barely north of .200, the despite adding some value with the glove. Overall, the Dodgers have gotten a 1.3 bWAR out of him even if the bat hasn’t been there.

I honestly don’t think Cody will be a Dodger next year. I like him, but his offensive numbers are not anywhere near where they need to be. I am losing patience and LA is probably doing the same. Very sad but what can you do.
Especially since he is expected to get $20millon in arbitration!
