Dodgers News: Craig Kimbrel Will Return Today

Sunday afternoon was a bitter ending to an otherwise great weekend series against the Padres. The Dodgers carried a 1-0 lead into the 9th shouldered by an outstanding effort from Clayton Kershaw. But that lead melted away as soon as a Jake Cronenwort line drive struck Craig Kimbrel in the back.

The Dodgers bullpen melted down from there and they lost their only game of the 4-game series. But they also feared that they had lost Kimbrel after taking that liner off of his back. The closer underwent a CT scan to see if there was underlying damage to his scapula.

That apparently came back clean and the Dodgers will have Kimbrel available tonight. They’ll be looking to close out a series sweep against the Rockies before welcoming the Cubs into town for a 4-game series, starting on Thursday.

In his absence, the Dodgers went with Brusdar Graterol last night to close out the game. He struck out 2 batters and used a wicked slider to get them swinging en route to his second career save. Brusdar also got an easy groundout to first to end that game after Ryan McMahon reached on a sinking liner to center.

But Kimbrel will be back tonight and it will be interesting to see how he is feeling after getting hit. The Dodgers closer has an ERA north of 6 over his last 15 appearances and has blown 3 different games in that span.
