Dodgers News: Dodgers Favored To Win 2014 World Series By Sportsbook

The Los Angeles Dodgers were favored to win the World Series before the playoffs started in 2013, but ultimately lost Game 6 of the NLCS in embarrassing fashion to the St. Louis Cardinals.

However, with deep pockets and plenty of holes to fill up and down the roster, the Dodgers will be players once again in free agency and the trade market. While the Red Sox won the World Series less than 24 hours ago, Sportsbook.com already has the favorites to hoist the trophy next October:

That’s right, the Dodgers are the 5/1 favorites to win the World Series next year and while the list doesn’t include all the teams, the Tigers and Nationals are right behind at 8/1.

While the Hot Stove will start today until the end of January, the Dodgers have already been linked to Rays pitcher David Price and Japanese sensation Masahiro Tanaka. They also have 12 free agents of their own as they’ll have to make decisions about Mark Ellis and Chris Capuano’s options by 12 am EST on Saturday.

The 2014 free agent class isn’t too deep as there are only a few standout players at each position and it could intrigue the Dodgers to pursue trades rather than sign bottom of the barrel players. Rounding out the top-5 of favored teams are the Cardinals at 10/1 while the Red Sox are at 12/1 to repeat.

Obviously being favored to win doesn’t guarantee anything, but it’s clear that everyone expects the Dodgers to start the 2014 season with an even better team.
