Dodgers News: Edwin Uceta Joins Active Roster

As the Dodgers look for the series sweep against the Washington Nationals in DC, they do it as tired and stretched thin as possible. Already down one starter with Trevor Bauer being put on administrative leave by MLB, a Saturday night rain delay forced Clayton Kershaw out of the game early.

The bullpen picked up 5 innings last night and are now asked to shoulder the brunt of another bullpen game roughly 16 hours after Kenley Jansen slammed the door.

With that in mind, the Dodgers have made a move.

After Saturday’s win, Dave Roberts confirmed that right-hander Edwin Uceta would be on the active roster for Sunday’s brunch time game (breakfast in LA).

I think we’re in a good spot. We’ll make a move to bring Uceta [today]. He’ll be fresh and able to go 75, 80 pitches if need be. But some other guys it’s going to be two out of three, three out of four, something like that. But we have enough pitching.

In a corresponding move, Brusdar Graterol was optioned to triple-A Oklahoma City.

This will be Uceta’s fourth time up with the big club this season. In 8 games, the 23-year-old prospect has allowed 10 earned runs over 14.1 innings pitched. He made his debut earlier this year in Milwaukee, tossing 2 innings against the Brewers.

Brusdar Graterol pitched two scoreless innings in his return to the active roster.

  1. Needs to be kept down in the minors. Has no control of his pitches. Why send Graterol down unless they want to have him face more batters? He looked pretty good the other nite.
