For the entire 2013 season, the Los Angeles Dodgers defense was definitely not their strong suit. Overall, they ranked 23rd in baseball with a .981 fielding percentage and 25th with 109 errors.
However, individually, the Dodgers had some of the best fielders in all of baseball and that’s why five Dodgers were nominated for National League Gold Glove awards. The winners will be announced on Tuesday at 5 PM PST on ESPN2 and Bill Shaikin of the LA Times revealed who the Dodger nominees are:
#Dodgers Gold Glove finalists: AJ Ellis, Mark Ellis, Adrian Gonzalez, Juan Uribe, Zack Greinke.

Coaches and managers vote on the winners at each position, but are forbidden from voting for their own players on the ballot. Starting this year, major league baseball partnered with SABR to incorporate sabermetrics into this year’s voting.
Uribe has had a campaign for a Gold Glove almost the entire year as he’s made difficult plays look routine while Greinke showed off his athleticism on the mound plenty of times this season.
For the season, Uribe ranked second in third base fielding percentage at .983 as he only made five errors in 123 games and had a defensive WAR of 1.76, good for seventh among third basemen. A.J. Ellis led all of baseball in throwing out base runners as he gunned down 44 percent of base stealers and only committed three errors.
Meanwhile, Gonzalez took home Gold Glove awards in 2008, 2009 and 2011, but in 2013, he didn’t have the greatest year in the field. He committed 11 errors and ranked just 17th in fielding percentage at .992. Not to mention, he had a minuscule 0.1 defensive WAR and wasn’t in the top-20 in range factor.
Mark Ellis ranked eighth among second baseman with a .989 fielding percentage and ranks in the top-10 in defensive WAR, range factor and errors as he put together another solid year defensively at second base.
