Dodgers News: Justin Turner Finally Heads to Injured List

In what’s an annual occurrence, the Dodgers have held veteran third baseman Justin Turner out of the lineup while he deals with a nagging core injury. Turner injured himself in a game back on July 21st and was held out of the lineup for a week while he rested up what was termed a rotational abdominal injury.

He was finally back in the lineup on July 27th and hasn’t seen the field again since.

Now he finally heads to the injured list. The move is retroactive to July 30th.

In his place, top hitting prospect Miguel Vargas was called up and added to the active roster. Trade deadline acquisition Joey Gallo, as Bill Plunkett mentioned in the tweet above, is expected to join the active roster on Wednesday in San Francisco.

Turner has slashed .257/.332/.405 with 8 home runs and 54 runs batted in over 86 games this season. After a slow start, the 37-year-old had been on a tear over his last 27 games hitting .376 with a 1.025 OPS.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts remains hopeful that Turner can rejoin the club after only a short stint on the IL.
