The Dodgers are one step closer to getting back their most versatile defender. Kiké Hernandez will begin his rehab assignment today according to manager to Dave Roberts.

Hernandez went down with a hand sprain a few weeks ago and has not played since July 24th. It was that series against the Angels that Kiké took an awkward swing and grimaced in pain. The 27-year-old super-utility player will begin a rehab assignment tonight with the Arizona Summer League team. He will likely return to big league action immediately following the short stint.

Hernandez was hitting .238 with the Dodgers, hitting 14 home runs and driving in 52 runs before being sidelined with the injury. In his place, Kristopher Negron has become the go-to utility player and has done well. In 13 games, Negron is hitting .297 with a pair of homers.

Chris Taylor also began his rehab assignment this week, working his way back from a fractured forearm. That was sustained on a hit-by-pitch in Boston following the All-Star break.

  1. Great another automatic-out. I thought we got rid of one Barnes and replaced him with someone who can actually hit, Will Smith. now if we can get rid of Martin and Pederson.

  2. Need to find a playoff roster spot for Matt Beatty, definitely NLDS, possibly NLCS and World Series roster even if it bumps off Pederson and Hernandez. The Dodgers Need this guys bat there!
