Dodgers News: LA Prospect Leads Oklahoma City to Victory Saturday Night

Dodgers are LOADED with top prospects. MLB.com currently ranks LA’s minor league system at No. 2 behind the Baltimore Orioles who sit at fourth in their division compared to the Dodgers who have the best record in baseball.

Last night, one of the Dodgers top prospects and recent participant in the Futures’ All-Star game, shined off the bench. Miguel Vargas entered Saturday’s game as a pinch hitter and stayed in the game at third base.

In a close game, the 22-year-old mashed a three run bomb in the seventh inning to dead center that extended the lead for OKC. That homer was Vargas’ 16th of the year.

Dodgers Triple-A affiliate won a nail-bitter over the San Diego Padres Triple-A affiliate, 9-8 thanks to the young Dodgers stud. He finished last night going 1-2 and 3 RBI.

The right-handed batter was called up by the Dodgers in early August against the Giants in San Francisco. In that game, Vargas showed why he is the No. 3 prospect in the Dodgers farm system. The Cuban hit an RBI double and he ended the night with 2 hits, 2 RBI’s and a stolen base. Another game in which he helped propell his team to victory.

While hitting his 16th HR of the season for OKC, Vargas also extended his hitting streak to 13 games- which makes it the longest active streak in the PCL.

The No. 3 prospect is bound to help the Dodgers in the coming years and is set to dominate at the plate and on third base.

  1. It’s “fourth” not “forth” if you are describing a numerical position. “Forth” means forward or out in front.
