Dodgers News: Los Angeles Selects the Contract of LHP Justin Bruihl

As always, the Dodgers are making some roster moves for the bullpen ahead of their series finale against the Angels. Looking to take 2 of 3 from Anaheim, Los Angeles selected the contract of yet another pitcher from Triple-A.

The Dodgers selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Justin Bruihl this afternoon. Bruihl was first signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2017 out of Cal San Luis Obispo. Whenever he gets into a game, he will be making his big league debut at age 24.

Bruihl has been big for the Oklahoma City Dodgers and Tulsa in 2021, making 26 total appearances and pitching to a 2.63 ERA across 37.2 innings. He has struck out 50 batters and issued just 10 walks across both Double-A and Triple-A.

His addition also helps the Dodgers with their left-handed issue in the bullpen. Victor Gonzalez hasn’t been nearly what they had hoped he would be in 2021 and David Price had to move to the rotation. Alex Vesia has stepped up in a big way recently, but they still need shutdown arms from the left side.

To make room for Bruihl on the active roster, the Dodgers placed Garrett Cleavinger on the injured list with an oblique issue. He last pitched on Friday night against the Angels and allowed the winning runs to cross in extra-innings. He was charged with just 1 of those runs.

  1. I thought he did a great job
    in that ‘high leverage’ situation
created by Quackenbush who I had
a feeling would fold. Also, he seems to
have a bigger ‘sweeping’ breaking pitch than
Gonzalez. Batters were havin’ a tough time not
only pickin’ it up but laying off it!

  2. I wager that Justin Bruihl does not get out of the second inning and that gives at four walks in the one inning plus. Two runs in the first and three in the second. This guy belongs in the minors. May be even better, he should be pitching in high school still. No talent.
