Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Activated and Zach McKinstry Optioned to Triple-A

The Dodgers are making a number of moves ahead of the final game of their series against the Diamonbacks. With hopes of taking the series win and keeping pace with the Giants in the West, Los Angeles got one big name back.

They officially activated Mookie Betts off of the injured list just a few hours before the game. The Dodgers also optioned Mitch White and surprisingly Zach McKinstry in the moves today. To fill out that final spot, they selected the contract of Yefry Ramirez as well.

The Mookie activation is obviously the biggest news as the Dodgers have been waiting on him for weeks. But the McKinstry option is pretty significant as well. He’s struggled badly since returning from the injured list with an oblique strain, and they’ve obviously decided he needs work.

Still, getting back Mookie is huge for the Dodgers. He went 7-for-10 with a homerun in his 3 games after the All-Star break before hitting the IL. He’s hitting .270 on the year with 14 homeruns and has driven in 40 runs from the leadoff spot.

The Dodgers also moved RHP Jimmie Sherfy to the 60-day injured list in order to make room for Ramirez on the 40-man roster. Sherfy has been on the IL with right elbow inflammation since July 24th.

  1. Both are solid moves based on facts…. McKinstry looked awkward and overmatched (he’s no Kike’ Hernandez, White always allows 2 ER, he’s a horse for “show”…. not enough ability, “AAA” stuff, at best. Plus, Santana had 3 years +, to show his stuff, he was like Mitch White…. One more move…. better school Kirsten Watson (very hard to understand her rapid mumbling…. man, I miss Alanna Rizzo so much (can’t apologize because it’s so hard to watch)…. 50+ year Dodger fan.

    1. Why, is there a problem with Bellinger? Come on man, he’s hitting almost .120 (yes, he’s losing ground but he’s swinging!) and sort of, almost, nearly, turning the corner, a little. No I’m not channeling Roberts.

      I’m kidding.

    2. Robby, they may have a solution when Trea Turner arrives because either he or CT3 can handle CF. Another thing also is that both CT3 and Pollock must remain inthe lineup right now no matter what. And that means they can’t sit just because of Bellingers CF defense. Again, if he wants to be in there, a .150. BA won’t cut it.

  2. I agree. Unfortunately, there is no designated fielder. Bellinger doesn’t deserve to be in the lineup. In fact, he needs to be at Triple A right now working on his swing. At this time of year, the best 8 have to be in the lineup, plain and simple. If Trea wants to play 2nd base, you put CT3 in centerfield. If Trea wants to play centerfield, you put CT3 at 2nd. My lineup:
    Betts
    T. Turner
    Seager
    J. Turner
    Muncy
    Smith
    Pollock
    Taylor

    1. I totally agree, I cannot figure out why Belliinger is still in the line up? He is holding a spot on the roster. He definately needs some time in OKC. The Mckinstry move should have been done months ago. These kids they are bringing up are not ready to play in the show. I cannot believe there are no hungry guys in triple A league. Here’s my next wish. Dusty Baker is off contract in 2022. Friedman needs to explore the option of bringing him to LA. Roberts is finished here. His managing style is to lax. LA needs a thinker and a strong personality to manage this team. Not a manager that let’s the players make hard decisions. What’s Roberts next move, wait until Bellinger sinks into double digits in his batting average. Roberts is too close into personal relationships with these players. That can’t happen in any business.
