Dodgers News: Reliever Dellin Betances Retires From Baseball

The Dodgers really tried to make the Dellin Betances signing work. Much as they have for the past near-decade, they took a low-risk chance on a veteran guy that ran into injuries. But Betances was among the elite relievers in baseball before injuries derailed his career.

Back in April, the Dodgers signed Betances to a minor league deal. The hope was that he could work his way back from shoulder issues and a torn Achilles tendon suffered with the Mets in 2019. He’s been at Triple-A Oklahoma City, but they could not make it work.

Betances has opted to retire from baseball rather than continuing his baseball career. The Dodgers reliever had appeared in 15 games for the OKC team and got hit very hard. He allowed 16 earned runs in 13 innings of work and walked 14 batters in the process.

But Betances can walk away from a big league career to be very proud of. Even if things didn’t work out with the Dodgers, he put up 4 All-Star seasons and racked up over 600 strikeouts. Best of luck to you Dellin, in whatever you decide to do from here.

The Dodgers officially released him as part of his retirement decision this week. He was never on the 40-man roster though.
