Dodgers News & Rumors: Puig And Ryu Named To BA Rookie Team

Yasiel Puig and Hyun-Jin Ryu were huge contributors to the Dodgers success this season and performed much better than anyone expected. Today, they were both named to the Baseball America All-Rookie First Team and both are in the running for the NL Rookie of the Year.

Puig made a splash when he joined the ball club in June and rejuvenated the struggling Dodgers. He would end up batting .319/.391/.534 and also added 19 home runs and 42 runs batted in. Puig was an instant sensation and his play in the field was impressive as well with his rocket arm and amazing speed allowed him to make some spectacular plays in right field.

Not to be outdone, Ryu greatly exceeded his expectations, going 14-8 with a 3.00 ERA this season. When he was first signed with the Dodgers, not much was known about Ryu, but he was a consistent number three starter for the Dodgers all season. In his last start for the Dodgers, he beat Adam Wainwright in Game 3 of the NLCS 3-0.

Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez is considered the favorite to win the NL Rookie of the Year, but Puig and Ryu are arguably right behind him for the award.
