It seems as if the Dodgers and their celebratory jump into the pool at Chase Field after clinching the NL West has created another enemy in Arizona. The celebration has climbed the ranks in Arizona from players and team CEOs to U.S. politicians.
With the Dodgers needing just one win to clinch the division, the Diamondbacks requested they not come back onto the field in an effort for their staff to clear the stadium.
However, Arizona Senator John McCain tweeted his displeasure with the Dodgers pool dive and had a few adjectives to describe the NL West champions:
No-class act by a bunch of overpaid, immature, arrogant, spoiled brats! “The #Dodgers are idiots”
— John McCain (@SenJohnMcCain) September 20, 2013
The Dodgers have created quite a buzz in Arizona as players Hyun-Jin Ryu, Yasiel Puig and others ran out beyond the right field fence and celebrated with cannonballs and champagne. The come from behind 7-6 victory was capped by a game winning home run by A.J. Ellis in the 8th inning.
The Diamondbacks and the state of Arizona will have to wait until next year to be able to attempt to clear anything up with the Dodgers. The two teams will start the season in Australia late in March before the Dodgers make their return to Chase Field April 11-13.
It’s pretty crazy that the Dodgers jumping into a pool has created such a stir, but if they build a pool, who’s to say a team can’t celebrate by throwing a party?
UPDATE: Reliever Brian Wilson tweeted his response to McCain.
Senator McComplain knows a thing or two about coming in second and watching someone take a plunge in the pool (I mean poll) #POoLITICS
