Dodgers News: Teams Extends Partnership with RC Quakes

The Class-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and the Los Angeles Dodgers will continue their partnership for two more seasons. The Dodgers and Quakes announced their Player Development Contract (PDC) extension, which goes into 2018, on Thursday.

Many players have played in games with the Quakes as part of their rehab/development including Clayton Kershaw, Corey Seager, Julio Urias and Yasiel Puig.

“The Dodgers are a historic franchise in Major League baseball and the Quakes are proud to continue our partnership with them,” said Quakes Managing Partner Bobby Brett.

Having a place where players can develop and rehab is crucial, especially when the Dodgers have had a National League-record of 26 players on the disabled list.

From those 26 players, 11 of them have played this year for the Quakes while on a rehab assignment.

“We are extremely happy to continue our partnership with the Quakes for two more years”, said Dodgers player development director Gabe Kapler. “Grant, Brent, their staff, the city of Rancho Cucamonga and Quakes fans work together to create an atmosphere and environment that helps our players develop every day. We are confident that our affiliation will continue to produce outstanding Dodgers player for years to come.”

Most recently, Dodgers relief pitcher Casey Fien pitched for the Quakes on Thursday. Fien was was placed on the DL in early July due to tendinitis in his elbow.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the midst of closing out their home stand starting with a 3-game series vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates. They are one game behind the San Francisco Giants for first place in the NL West. As for the Quakes, they won the Cal League championship in 2015.
