Dodgers News: Tony Abreu & Eric Stults

Tony Abreu & Eric Stults : News

You remember these guys! Tony Abreu has been up and down with us over the years, but has been victim to numerous injuries setting him back each time. Eric Stults has pitched for us over the years and aside from a blister this year has been rather healthy. Well, we might just get to see both of them real soon.

Abreu

Tony Abreu has been on a tear in Pacific Coast League hitting .342 AVG with a .989 OPS. He is set to be called up today! Abreu can play 2B, 3B, and SS giving our starters a rest around the infield and coming off the bench.

Stults

Eric Stults has pitched well for us over the years, you might remember him best for beating the Mets in the 2006 playoffs, giving us 6 innings and allowing only 1 run. Or maybe you remember his shutout game against the White Sox in June of 2008.

Notes: Abreu is set to join the Dodgers real soon (possibly tonight), which we can definitely use, being we already had to see Schmidt pinch hit this week. While, Stults was recently pulled early from his start (last night), so we’re thinking he’ll be starting in place of Schmidt for Monday’s game against the Giants.

  1. Honestly, Id love to see Stults in the 5th starter position rather than Schmidt. I realize that Stults hit a couple of rough patches but I thought that the Dodgers should have stuck with him a little longer. I’m no traning expert but I know enough to be surpirsed when Schmidt returned as a starter. He no where near ready and even if the Dodgers think he still has potential in the tank…his return is way premature. Let him build up more stamina and bring him up during the playoffs.

Tony Abreu is so injury prone…for me the jury is still out. I need to see some consistency in the bigs.
