Dodgers News: Tony Gonsolin Will Be Activated Thursday to Pitch

The Dodgers getting their starting rotation back to full health by the time October comes around is key. If they can get at least 4 solid arms ready to roll for the postseason, they should have a very successful run.

They’ll be getting back one on Thursday afternoon, as reported by Dave Roberts. Prior to the Dodgers game on Wednesday, Doc said that they expect Tony Gonsolin to be activated for Thursday’s game. He will take the bulk role in that one instead of starting Julio.

Gonsolin did throw a rehab game, though he went just 2.1 innings in that one. But the Dodgers are expecting to give him the majority of innings on Thursday before handing things off to the bullpen. So it will once against be a heavy bullpen week even with Tony in there.

He will be taking the bulk of tomorrow’s game. …I think with the guys that we have in the bullpen, I think 3 and 45 or 3 and 50 is fair. And then we’ll kind of put it together after that.

Gonsolin last pitched on July 30th before hitting the injured list with his shoulder issue. The Dodgers have been down to essentially 3 starters since Tony and Clayton Kershaw went down. Now, they could both be back in the same week.

Both of those guys will play a pivotal role down the stretch as the Dodgers chase the Giants. They’ll need some time to build up for October, but getting them back right now is HUGE.

  1. What happened to RHP Andre Jackson who started games for the Dodgers? He hasn’t been called up since he last started a couple of weeks ago. He had an ERA 1.04 in 8 2/3 innings (2 appearances) with this MLB Dodgers team.

    1. Blue,

      That makes too much sense….

It’s looking like Roberts strategy is to rest as many players he can until we are 5 games back with 3 to play…. Then, balls to the wall…..

    2. I’ve been wondering that too. I thought having depth meant you had guys to replace the players on the IL. When Jackson and White could have been used we had bullpen games instead. Maybe the Dodger brass doesn’t think they are ready?

  2. So you have a 1B who can’t hit RHP so you start him against a RHP. That’s a winning strategy.

  3. I’m glad to hear the Cat Man news! Is their any news on what’s going on with Victor Gonzalez?
