Dodgers News: Trea Turner Subtly Pushes Trading for Juan Soto

Baseball is at times a game of odd coincidences that aren’t just limited to what’s happening in between the lines. Juan Soto trade rumors have encapsulated the league for the last several weeks. The speculation was even a major storyline during the All-Star Game festivities, with the Dodgers among the teams continually linked to the Nationals superstar.

Nationals playing a three-game series at Dodger Stadium seems like something out of a movie script. It’s been gasoline on the Juan-Soto-to-LA trade fire.

The Soto buzz has led to plenty of questions to the Dodgers players for their thoughts about the prospect of LA trading for another top-shelf talent. Especially Soto’s former teammate, Trea Turner.

Turner was asked if he’s tried to recruit Soto after the Nationals outfielder joked that he himself reached out to Trea about signing with Washington this winter as a free agent.

Trea’s response generated a bit of excitement from Dodgers fans (quotes via The LA Times’ Jack Harris).

“I don’t know if I can recruit. But I’m a Dodger, and hopefully he’s a Dodger as well.”

Dodgers fans loudly cheered for Soto after his name was announced prior to an at-bat during the series. Throughout Dodger Stadium, fans can be heard yelling “Fu-ture Dod-ger” during every at-bat.

If team president Andrew Friedman and general manager Brandon Gomes made acquisitions based on the popular vote, they would have already made a deal.

Fortunately, the pair of savvy Dodgers execs use their heads, not public pressure from fans, to make decisions.

The Nationals are reportedly asking potential Soto suitors for their top six prospects, which would be a historic haul and completely wipe out any franchise’s farm system.

Fans are yelling for it, Trea is hoping, but only time will tell if Friedman and Gomes are willing to do it before the August 2nd (3PM PT) trade deadline.

  1. Trea is a Dodger and should remain one for many years. Take some of the $ you would spend on Soto and sign TT now. Soto only putting up mediocre numbers now and not worth clearing out the farm system.
