Dodgers News: Trea Turner Will Not Bat Leadoff When Mookie Betts Returns

The Dodgers are hoping to get Mookie Betts back into their lineup sooner rather than later. The superstar outfielder went down with a cracked rib after colliding with Cody Bellinger in the outfield in a game against the Angels on June 15th. He has sat out since then and is currently working his way back.

Betts progressed to taking batting practice on the field and making some throws on Thursday afternoon. The Dodgers are hopeful that he can keep moving forward and Dave Roberts believes he could return early next week.

But when he does return, Trea Turner has made the conversation around leadoff hitters very interesting. Turner has gone 20-for-56(.357) with 9 runs scored heading into Thursday night’s game against the Padres. But Mookie has long been the Dodgers leadoff hitter, and that’s where he prefers to hit.

Dave Roberts said before the Padres series that there will not be a change from the norm when he does come back.

It’s been a conversation among Dodgers fans for the last 2 weeks with Mookie out. With Betts struggling in the month of June, what Trea has been able to do has many wondering if Mookie at the top of the order is the right move.

But Dave is going to stick with his guy, and he’s sticking with the one that will be with the Dodgers for the next decade-plus.
