Dodgers: NFL QB Would Like to Throw Out the First Pitch in LA One Day

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a diverse fan base. That fan base also includes a NFL quarterback who will take the field in the NFL’s opening playoff weekend.

It also happens to be the quarterback for a team that has deep roots in Los Angeles.

AM570’s David Vassegh explained Carr’s Dodgers connection on an episode of Dodger Talk. Vassegh was able to meet Carr during a spring practice through a NFL connection.

“Derek Carr, who is a Fresno guy, grew up not only a Laker fan, but he also told me he’s a huge Dodger fan. He’s a big Dodgers fan. He actually expressed interest to me that he’d like to throw out the first pitch at Dodger Stadium one time. Hopefully that comes to fruition one of these days.”

Carr could certainly paint the black with his ceremonial first pitch. He’s been one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the league this year.

The admitted Dodgers fan played at Fresno State for four years before the then Oakland Raiders drafted him in the second round.

It’s not a surprise that many Dodgers fans root for The Silver and Black. The Raiders won four division championships and a Super Bowl during their 12 years in Los Angeles.

This writer does’t pull for the Raiders, but Carr throwing out the first at Dodger Stadium would still be pretty cool.

When Derek Carr’s not playing in front of the Black Hole, the Las Vegas Raiders quarterback sports Dodger blue.

Carr and the Raiders will take on the Cincinnati Bengals this Saturday in the NFL Wild Card round.

  1. This is pretty cool! I’m curious to see his throwing mechanics….The Raiders and the Dodgers have their similarities in that they have the first to do things in their leagues. The Dodgers had the first black player,Jackie Robinson. The first Japanese pitcher,Hideo Nomo. The Raiders had the first Mexican quarterback and head coach,Tom Flores. The first black head coach,Art Shell.Welcome to the land of opportunity and Hall of Fame!

    1. The first Japanese to pitch in the majors was not Hideo Nomo, it was Masanori Murakami of the Giants in the 64.

  2. Hate it all you want…the RAIDERS still own LA. Hell even the Niners apparently own LA now too LOL

  3. Exactly! Raider Nation is shared with Dodger Nation by many, myself included, and with that fact, I think DC4 should be allowed to realize this dream of his.

  4. Stafford first (with Kershaw behind the plate), then start taking reservations of other sports guys…
