Dodgers NLDS News: Washington Nationals Name Game 4 Starter

The Washington Nationals and manager Dave Martinez have named Max Scherzer their starting pitcher for game four of the National League Division Series.

After the Nationals won game two, there was some speculation they would turn to their ace to start game three, but that job belongs to right-hander Anibal Sanchez.

Scherzer has thrown 6 innings this postseason, allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits. He was the Nationals’ starter for the Wild Card game against the Brewers, where he went five innings and allowed three runs.

His other appearance came in the eighth inning of game two on Friday against the Dodgers. He pitched one inning and struck out the side.

The three-time Cy Young Award winner and seven-time all-star owns a career 3.78 postseason ERA with 109 strikeouts over 88 innings of work.

Scherzer has made two postseason starts against the Dodgers in his career. Both came during the 2016 NLDS, with the Nationals losing both games. He pitched 12 innings and allowed five runs during that series.

The Dodgers will counter with left-hander Rich Hill.

First pitch is scheduled for 3:40 p.m. PT at Nationals Park on Monday, Oct. 7.

  1. We will have our hands full tonight, but Sherzer has not been as sharp lately. He has been giving up lots of home runs.

Robert’s needs to bench Pollock. To say he has been pathetic in this series is an understatement. I have been pretty vocal this year in the huge disappointment that Pollock has been.
