Dodgers: Offensive Outburst Keeps LA at the Top of Power Rankings

The Dodgers seem to have found their stride very early in the season. After a rough opening in Colorado in which they dropped 2 of 3 of the Rockies, the Los Angeles offense has yet to lose a game. They swept the Twins in a mini-series and absolutely rolled past the Reds over this weekend.

That outburst put the Dodgers right back at the top of the MLB Power Rankings this week. The latest update has them at number one again, right back where they were in the preseason rankings. But it’s not just the bats that are coming around, which was what everyone expected.

The Dodgers starting rotation is suddenly looking like one of the best in baseball right now. They combined to post a 0.56 ERA during this 6-game winning streak they are on. Andrew Heaney has been right in the middle of that too, posting 10.1 innings without being hit with an earned run.

But in terms of offense, the Dodgers bats are back. They outscored their opponents 40-9 over those 6 games this week and have not played from behind at all. Gavin Lux, Chris Taylor, and Freddie Freeman are all leading the way with the bats. Those 3 guys have combined to hit .326 to start the year and have driven in 15 runs.

But they’re also getting it done without production from key players. Mookie Betts is still struggling to get things going, starting the year by hitting 7-for-34 and knocking in just 3 runs. If the Dodgers can get his bat going at the top of the lineup, they will continue to score a whole lot of runs.
