Here we are on Thanksgiving and rest assured you’re the person family members are turning to for Dodgers news, rumors and updates. To lend a helping hand, we present to you everything that’s happened with the boys in blue so far this offseason.
First up, here are some of the moves that have happened so far.
Officially, the Dodgers have released or traded away a few players while resetting the 40-man roster. LHP Scott Alexander is out. Infielder Andy Burns and RHP Jimmie Sherfy were outrighted to Triple-A OKC. And outfielders Billy McKinney and Zach Reks were traded to Texas for cash.
Earlier this week, the team made a few depth moves, adding RHP Beau Burrows and OF Jason Martin on minor league deals (both moves have yet to be confirmed by the Dodgers).
Now let’s get to the good stuff. What’s the latest with Corey Seager, Clayton Kershaw, Max Scherzer, Kenley Jansen and more?
With the free agent shortstop, it’s been a lot of cyber ink spilled without much else. The Yankees are interested in him but are rumored to be looking into waiting for a cheaper deal. The Rangers and Dodgers are in on him and, by all accounts, LA is in the lead for the All-Star’s services.
The contract value is expected to be quite high.
With Kersh, it pretty much seems like if he wants to pitch, he has a contract essentially waiting with the Dodgers. Even if no numbers or terms have been discussed. However, the Rangers are making a push to have him pitch for his hometown team in Texas.
CT3 is a coveted man and is going to definitely bag more security than the $18.4 million he left on the table in LA with the qualifying offer. The Tigers and Rangers are among the teams that have been linked. A pair of east coast teams make sense as well. However, he could just be the most important free agent for LA this winter.
Kenley rumors have been quiet. Presumably, the Dodgers would love to have him back. Andrew Friedman has said as much. However, after blowing the payroll out of the water in 2021, the Dodgers may look to trim back the budget a bit next season. Jansen has a nice home and a lovely family fairly rooted in Los Angeles, which could play something of a roll in his decision.
With Mad Max Scherzer, every team wants him, but who will pony up the dough? His rumored asking price is quite high, but you know what you’re getting out of the three-time Cy Young award winner. Even at age 37.
Joe Kelly walked off the mound injured in the NLCS and reports had him potentially missing the start of the 2022 season. But those proved to be a false alarm, as his wife Ashley prominently challenged on social media. Rumors have him expected to return to LA on a lower AAV (average annual value) deal.
Here are all the rumors and reports on players outside of the Dodgers organization.
