Dodgers Promote Gavin Lux to Oklahoma City

Top infield prospect Gavin Lux has been promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Lux remains one of the Dodgers’ top few prospects in their system and has just one more stop to go before answering the second base question at the MLB level for Los Angeles.

This promotion has been expected for some time now, as whispers surfaced about a month ago.

This season with Tulsa, Lux has excelled, putting together a 141 wRC+ and crushing 13 bombs and swiping 7 bags across 64 games.

He is an integral part of the Dodgers’ future and it is a delight to see him get a much-deserved promotion.

*Update*

Lux was joined by top pitching prospect Dustin May, who also made the jump to triple-A.

May has a 3-5 record with a 3.74 ERA in 15 starts with double-A Tulsa this season. He is the Dodgers number 3 prospect, and number 51 in baseball, as ranked by MLB.

My name is Daniel Preciado and I am 19 years old. I am a sophomore Sport Analytics major and Cognitive Science and Economics dual minor at Syracuse University. When I am not in New York, I live in Whittier, California --- not too far from Chavez Ravine. I am pretty old-school for being an analytics guy and I will always embrace debate. Also, Chase Utley did absolutely nothing wrong.

  1. I am a big Lux fan, however! I nominate Lux to be traded to Pittsburgh for Valasquez. Lux is blocked by Muncy at second along with the logjam of Kike and Taylor. The Dodgers are beginning to platoon Pederson/Freese at 1st to play Verdugo when Pollock returns and frankly Deter and Estevez also look good for the Future at second. The Dodgers desperately need a great Bullpen arm and Velasquez is lights out and under contract for two more years with a very friendly $ figure.
If they want a realistic shot at getting to and winning the WS they must stabilize the Bullpen. I am not in favor of Will Smith unless they can get him reasonably as he would simply be a rental as his contract expires this year.

    1. tmaxter, I am not in favor of dealing Lux or May if they can help it. correct about that other Will Smith because he would be a rental and it cannot cost that much because of that. I doubt that Dodgers would do a deal with the Giants because they have to be aware that Zaidi wants to ‘fleece’ the farm system for sure, as he knows all too well who they have in it.

      1. Azul, this a very tough call. We are so close to potentially winning it all that I can understand dealing Lux. Second basemen are not that difficult to obtain unless you are the Dodgers who have had some bad luck in trading for capable second sackers. However with Muncy or Taylor, I would probably go for the trade with Velasquez as the prize. Go Blue!

  2. How about drafting some righties once in a while. Sabre dorks seem to have an obsession with lefties either on the mound or at the plate.
