Dodgers Prospect Analysis with ESPN Insider Kiley McDaniel

Last week ESPN insider Kiley McDaniel released his farm system rankings for all 30 MLB teams. During an undoubtedly busy time in his schedule, Kiley was kind enough to join DodgersNation.com for an exclusive chat about the list, and some Dodgers prospect talk.

McDaniel breaks down how his prospect ranking system works, and how complicated it can be to put together a list like this.

In terms of the Dodgers, some top prospects including Gavin Lux and Dustin May are discussed, plus Keibert Ruiz’s somewhat dramatic falloff from top prospects lists. Additionally, we ask how long will it take for experts to say that Los Angeles won the Kenta Maeda/Brusdar Graterol swap.

Kiley also kindly takes some time to discuss his upcoming book, due to drop next month.

Kiley is an MLB Insider at ESPN focusing on prospects, the MLB Draft, free agency and more. His top prospects series has been published on ESPN+ this month, including Top 100, top AL and NL prospects and Top Teams. Kiley’s book, Future Value: The Battle for Baseball’s Soul and How Teams Will Find the Next Superstar, is being released next month.

  1. I said they should have offered Ruiz with Downs instead of Verdugo. Maybe they did and Boston turned them down but it just seemed like the Dodgers were tying their wagon to Wil Smith so Ruiz was just kind of insurance… Who knows, its all water under the bridge anyway, I guess.
