De La Rosa faced little resistance from the Dodgers in the bottom of the fifth as he needed just six pitches to get through the inning and he retired 14 consecutive batters to that point. While the Rockies worked patient at-bats in the sixth, they had nothing to show for it though continued to lead 1-0 through 5.5 innings.

After A.J. Ellis opened the bottom of the sixth with a ground out, Joc Pederson pinch hit for Greinke, who was lifted after throwing 100 pitches in six innings. Pederson was unable to jumpstart the Dodgers however, as he went down swinging. Hernandez, responsible for the Dodgers lone hit on the night, grounded to Descalso and De La Rosa had six scoreless innings in the books.

Sergio Santos took over in the seventh, issued a one-out walk and gave up a two-run home run to Descalso that extended the Rockies’ lead to 3-0. Santos then ran into more trouble in the eighth while simultaneously joining the history books. LeMahieu struck out swinging to open the inning but reached safely on a wild pitch.

LeMahieu moved into scoring position on another wild pitch and scored on Carlos Gonzalez’s base hit to left that Guerrero misplayed and allowed to role to the wall. Arenado then added a two-run homer to push the Rockies’ lead to 6-0.

Once the damage had been done Santos struck out the next three batters he faced, giving the Dodgers four-strikeout innings on consecutive nights as Kenley Jansen accomplished the rare feat in the eighth inning on Friday.

Gurrero led off the bottom of the eighth and reached on a rare throwing error by Arenado. Scott Van Slyke hit back to the box that resulted in an out at first base and also an apparent injury to De La Rosa. Rafael Betancourt came on in relief to record the final two outs of the inning.

Rafael Ynoa pinch-hit for Betancourt in the ninth and ripped a double down the left field line. He later scored on LeMahieu’s infield single that Kendrick made a diving stop on in shallow right field, but lost control of the ball as he rose to his feet.

Pitching with a comfortable 7-0 lead, Scott Oberg hit Hernandez with a pitch and gave up a one-out bloop double to Rollins that left two runners in scoring position with one out. Oberg then walked Kendrick to load the bases and hit Turner with a pitch to drive in the Dodgers’ first run of the game.

It would be all the Dodgers scored as Guerrero went down swinging in a poor at-bat and Van Slyke also struck out. The loss was Greinke’s first this season, snapped his 10-game winning streak that dated back to last season, and was his first loss to a National League West opponent in 21 starts since the start of the 2014 season.
