Dodgers Roster: LA Has an Updated Timeline on Mookie Betts Returning From Stint on Injured List

There’s really no way to sugarcoat it, the Dodgers offense has been a big reason why LA has been a .500 team in the month of June (12-12) entering play on Wednesday. Although the Dodgers are middle-of-the-road in as a team by wRC+ (12th) and batting average 13th), they rank 24th in runs scored. Missing Mookie Betts, their superstar outfielder and leadoff man, is definitely part of the equation.

Betts has been on the injured list since June 18th after cracking a rib in an in-game collision with Cody Bellinger. Trea Turner has performed well in the leadoff spot (196 wRC+), the Dodgers are at their best with Mookie in the lineup.

During an interview on Tuesday on The Show podcast, Roberts outlined a rough timeline for Betts’ return.

“He’s going to start baseball activities tomorrow, which is Wednesday, so it’s probably a week to ten days at best. We were hoping to get him back by the San Diego series but that’s not going to happen. We just need to get Mookie back feeling good, feeling healthy because when he’s in there, he’s electric.”

On Wednesday, The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya reported an even more up-to-date projected return for Betts from Doc himself.

“Dave Roberts said he’s confident Mookie Betts will be back before the All-Star break. But when he comes back, it’ll be primarily as a DH to start, Roberts said.”

Betts coming in a largely DH capacity will lead to some interesting lineup decision for Roberts. Especially when it comes to where the Dodgers skipper decides to slot in Max Muncy and Justin Turner.
