Dodgers Roster News: Edwin Rios Sent to the Injured List, Edwin Uceta Recalled

The Dodgers are making more roster moves ahead of their Wednesday game against the Chicago Cubs. Los Angeles is looking to avoid a sweep in the Windy City and salvage the final game of the series.

First, Edwin Rios is being sent to the injured list with what the team is calling a right shoulder injury. Dave Roberts could not provide much more of an update on his health other than that there was an issue with the shoulder.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers have recalled right-handed pitcher Edwin Uceta from the taxi squad. Uceta made his MLB debet in Milwaukee last weekend, tossing 2 innings and giving up 2 runs in the loss to the Brewers.

Dodgers fans are obviously relieved for a lot of reasons with the Rios move. With his ongoing struggles this season, it was becoming apparent that something was wrong with the slugger. Now, the hope is that there is not a serious injury and that some lingering soreness has limited his strong bat. Rios had gone 4-for-51 in the first part of the season and looked lost at the plate.

The Dodgers have shown over the last couple of weeks that giving some guys downtime has been great for their mental health. That certainly was the case with Matt Beaty who came back from being sent down and has raked.

Mookie Betts was another guy that the Dodgers gave some time off, albeit a very limited time off. Mookie came back from a day off and looked much better.

  1. Well, it’s not his bat that is hurt. He’d have to have made contact for that to happen.

    1. Rainbirdmuse and Tim, if this is the underlying issue with Rios, he should have been sidelined a couple weeks ago. And Roberts didn’t think Dodgers play would fall to where it is now? IDK But correct that Rios would have had to make contact for his bat to hurt but then again Roberts is clueless.

  2. No loss at all! Sure would love to see Verugo and Kiki batting 1 and 2 in the lineup instead of the two we have now!
