Dodgers Rumors: Dodgers Scout Wandy Rodriguez

As we approach the trade deadline our shopping list continues to clarify. The Dodgers are in the market for a starting pitcher, a bat, and reliever.

Last night the Dodgers had scouts in Houston watching Wandy Rodriguez pitch against the Royals. He pitched 7 innings allowing 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks, and 3 strike outs. This is about the type of performance you can hope for with Rodriguez.

On the season he sports a 6-5 record with a 3.29 ERA. He is only averaging 5.74 strikeouts per 9 innings this year compared to his career average of 7.54.

Over the past 3 years he has had great success against the Dodgers, Giants, and Padres while struggling against the Diamondbacks and Rockies.

Contract wise Rodriguez makes $10m this year, $13m in 2013, and his $13m performance option for 2014 would become a player option if traded. More than likely we would have him in Dodgers blue for 2.5 years.

Questions you have to ask yourself, Is this a salary dump? Would they try and dump Carlos Lee and his huge contract in a package deal with Rodriguez?

Most importantly, Does this make sense for the Dodgers?
