Dodgers Rumors: Is Padres’ Chase Headley A 2015 Free Agent Target?

When the Dodgers traded for Hanley Ramirez, Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford last season, it was management’s way of catching up after the cash-strapped McCourt era.

In the off-season, Zack Greinke was signed for a record contract and in looking at how the team was constructed, many didn’t think all the big money players would fit (I’m talking to you, Brandon Belt). However, Padres third baseman Chase Headley is a free agent next season (2015) and is impressed with what the Dodgers are doing according to Bill Shaikin of the LA Times:

You can’t help but see what’s going on in L.A. and be impressed, with all the talent they have collected and to see how it all has fit together. In the beginning, it didn’t seem like it fit together at all. Now it seems like they’re playing at — I’m not a baseball historian, but it’s been a historic pace.

Current Dodgers third baseman Juan Uribe is having a nice season, but after back-to-back dismal seasons, he’s not a lock to be re-signed for the long term.

Coming off an incredible 2012 season, Headley hasn’t been himself as he’s hitting .240 with eight home runs and 40 RBIs as he deals with a back injury and didn’t play last night or tonight.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Dodgers decide to do in the offseason as Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is also a free agent as the Dodgers could wait a year and sign the third baseman.
