Dodgers Rumors: LA Was in the Mix on Andrew Benintendi

The trade market is officially off a rolling this week. With the deadline coming up on Tuesday afternoon, teams around the league are looking to improve their rosters and make a run at their divisions. Dodgers fans are hoping that this is another year where their team makes some waves and lands a big name.

One of the biggest moves of the deadline was made last night. The New York Yankees went out and landed Andrew Benintendi in a deal with the Royals that included 3 of their pitching prospects. But apparently, the Dodgers were one of the teams that were in the mix on Benintendi before he went to New York.

Ken Rosenthal reported on Wednesday night that the Dodgers, Brewers, and Blue Jays were the other 3 teams that were looking at acquiring him. That would have been pretty wild, considering the roster position Los Angeles is in right now.

But Benintendi is having a pretty ridiculous year with the bat. .320 and is showing an incredible contact rate. He has one of the better strikeout percentages in baseball and is also walking at a decent rate. And although he doesn’t hit for a lot of power, he is posting a 126 wRC+ in 93 games. Adding him to the Dodgers outfield would have been nice, but certainly not necessary.
