Francouer later came around to score on a slow groundout. Joc Pederson reached in the bottom of the third on a Billingsley throwing error. It didn’t amount to anything however, as Kendrick hit into a double play and Turner flied out.

Although Anderson tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the fourth, his workload became a concern as he’d already thrown 73 pitches. Grandal hit a ball that caromed off Billingsley’s leg and carried into left field for a one-out single. The Dodgers were turned again turned away as Puig and Ethier were retired to end the fourth inning with the Phillies still leading 4-0.

Anderson gave up a leadoff single in the fifth before retiring the next three batters, two on strikeout. Kiké Hernandez pinch-hit for Anderson with one out in the bottom of the fifth and struck out in what was another scoreless inning for the Dodgers.

Juan Nicasio took over in the sixth and promptly allowed a leadoff single to Brown. He then stole second base and moved to third on Cameron Rupp’s base hit to center. Billingsley attempted to move a second runner into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt, but Adrian Gonzalez threw Rupp out at second base.

Nicasio walked Cesar Hernandez on four pitches to load the bases, then gave up a two-run single to Ben Revere with the Dodgers’ infield drawn in. Nicasio retired the next two batters to end the inning with the Dodgers trailing 6-0. Billingsley ran into some trouble with two outs as he allowed a single to Gonzalez, followed by a Grandal two-run home run before the former Dodger managed to get out of the inning.

Just as quickly as the Dodgers’ cut into their deficit Nicasio offset some of that by allowing a solo home run to Francoeur to lead off the seventh. Luis Garcia took over for Billingsley in the bottom of the seventh and retired the side in order, including pinch-hitter Alberto Callaspo.

Newly recalled Ian Thomas issued a two-out walk in what was otherwise a clean eighth inning. Ken Giles replaced Garcia and hit Pederson with a pitch to open the bottom of the eighth. Rather than allowing the Dodgers to start a rally, Giles struck out Kendrick and Turner looking, and retired Gonzalez on a groundout.

Jonathan Papelbon entered in the ninth and plunked Ethier with two outs before wrapping up the Phillies’ 7-2 win.
