Dodgers: Several Booth Members Take Home SoCal Broadcaster Awards for 2020
Several Dodgers booth and broadcast members will be taking home prestigious awards this month. The Southern California Broadcaster Awards winners were announced on Monday afternoon on a zoom call.
The annual awards are determined via a vote by members. The awards serve to recognize radio and television work in Southern California. Here is the lengthy list of Dodgers broadcaster winners:
Charley Steiner- Call of the Year
In his first year of calling Dodgers games entirely from home, Charley brought us a huge call in 2020. With the final out of the 2020 World Series, Steiner gave us chills with words that easily topped that of the national broadcast. For that, he earned the Call of the Year.
Joe Davis- Bob Miller Television Play-by-Play Award
In his 4th year in the booth, Joe Davis. got a Dodgers World Series win. Because of his exceptional work throughout the year, the SCSB awarded him with the Bob Miller play-by-play award.
Alanna Rizzo- 2020 Television Reporter Award
Rizzon announced in January of this year that she would be stepping away from the Dodgers to spend time with her fiance. Rizzo will also be working on her non-profit foundation, Guidry’s Guardian, aimed at helping dogs in need. She leaves Los Angeles having won the Southern California Sports Broadcasters’ Association’s tv reporter award.
Jaime Jarrin- Spanish Radio Play-By-Play Award
Jarrin has been recognized as the Spanish voice of the Dodgers for over 60 years in Los Angeles. He takes home the award handed out for Spanish play-by-play. Jarrin is a member of the Southern California Sports Broadcasters’ Association Hall of Fame.

Dodgers: Dave Roberts Does Not View Austin Barnes as a Backup Catcher
Joe Davis, and especially Orel Hershiser, are “homers.” I long for the days of Vin Scully who was a fantastic announcer and who was not a Dodgers cheerleader. He just called the game, always referring to LA as the Dodgers, not as “we.” When watching other broadcasters cheer for their team (hello Giants announcers), it’s disconcerting to hear Orel being just like them.
I too think Joe sucks. But Charlie ain’t no pretty boy
And Orel well he’s just the ya your right Joe guy.
We need another great baseball guy and we’ll never replace Vinnie. But who then? A great team without a great voice isn’t as great.
