Dodgers to Sign Yeiner Fernandez, International Free Agent Catcher

It is international free agency season and the Dodgers have already made six signings in the market! Let’s take a look at the next one, Venezuelan catcher Yeiner Fernandez. Here is a pretty awesome look back on Fernandez in the Little League World Series in 2015:

Fernandez is no longer a flame-throwing pitcher, but now a catcher with a great arm.

Here is a link to a current video of Fernandez:

According to the Instagram video from Ben Badler of Baseball America, Fernandez checks in at 5’10 and around 190 pounds, giving him a good, projectable frame for a catcher.

Fernandez did not check in on the top 30 list for the MLB Pipeline rankings for international free agents. Baseball America no longer does rankings for this period.

Still, Fernandez figures to be a top-three — top-five at the worst catcher — in the international free agency pool.

It is not yet known what percentage of the bonus pool money the Dodgers possess was given to Fernandez.

When I am not in New York, I live in Whittier, California --- not too far from Chavez Ravine. I am pretty old-school for being an analytics guy and I will always embrace debate. Also, Chase Utley did absolutely nothing wrong.
