Dodgers: Tony Gonsolin’s Eye Popping Stat After 12 Starts

The Dodgers made a great decision when they inserted Tony Gonsolin into the starting rotation this year. While it was initially a question as to where he would end up, Gonsolin has ended up being one of their most consistent starters in 2022. And he’s been ridiculous.

Tuesday night was another solid start from Gonsolin against the Angels. He fired 6.1 innings of shutout baseball and punched out 6 batters en route to his 8th win of the season. It also lowered his earned run average to 1.42, the best in all of baseball.

That ERA mark also puts him among the Dodgers elite through his first 12 starts. The 1.42 ERA is the third-best ever for any starter in the franchise across their first 12 starts of the season. Only Don Drysdale and Hyun-jin Ryu put up better numbers.

It’s been a ridiculous start for Tony, and he’s doing it with incredible efficiency at times. He has lowered his walk rate to just 8.3 percent, way down from his 2021 season. That has resulted in him going deeper into games for the Dodgers and getting guys out.

At this point, Gonsolin is easily the Dodgers’ best pitcher. He and Tyler Anderson have been a pleasant surprise all year long, and TA gets the ball tonight against the Angels tonight in Los Angeles.
