Dodgers Trade Rumors: Are the Dodgers Looking to Trade for Reds Jay Bruce?

The Los Angeles Dodgers are keeping quiet when it comes to their trade plans. The deadline for non-waiver trades is on August 1st, and while most are speculating about Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Chris Archer, the Dodgers might have their eyes set on an outfielder.

The Dodgers have faced a high amount of injuries this season. Andre Ethier continues to have setbacks in his recovery and could spend the entire season on the disabled list. Trayce Thompson (back) is also injured alongside Yasiel Puig (hamstring).

Dodgers DL Has Been Uniquely Crowded This Season

As trade rumors continue to circulate regarding players like Archer and Evan Longoria, MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman thinks the Dodgers focus is elsewhere.

Heyman joined MLB Central to discuss the Dodgers potentially acquiring an outfielder. He said the Dodgers could possibly be seeking to land Cincinnati Reds right fielder Jay Bruce.

“It’s a good time to be looking for outfielders … Jay Bruce is a name I heard most prominently with the Dodgers … I think Bruce is probably the most likely for them.”

He went on to say that there are multiple teams looking into Bruce as well.

This season with the Reds, Bruce has hit 19 home runs while adding 66 RBIs.

  1. I do not think that you can truly evaluate Jay Bruce without looking at what his stats are at Dodger Stadium.  He has been positive this year with a batting average wRISP, but he is sub-Mendoza for the last several years at Dodger Stadium.  If Jay played the full year at Dodger Stadium, he does not get 19 HRs.  He is also a very poor defensive OF.  Overall, I do not see an upgrade over Puig.
