Dodgers: Trevor Bauer Already Impressing the Coaching Staff and His Teammates

The Dodgers adding Trevor Bauer into their rotation is truly an embarrassment of riches. Not only do they have another Cy Young winner on their staff, but they also get the added benefit of having other starters pushed to relief.

But the biggest question coming into Spring Training was how Bauer would work with the Dodgers pitching and coaching staff. From what it sounds like, that has not been an issue in the least bit.

Dodgers’ pitching coach Mark Prior talked to media on Sunday about what he has seen so far in Spring Training. Among many things. Prior was impressed with what Bauer brought to the conversation in terms of pitching. He was also very happy with the way that Bauer was open to hearing their ideas on how to approach pitching.

We listen to him and he listens to us. I think he’s open to hearing what we do and how we do things. We want to know what he does…There have been some initial conversations about the stuff he likes to track in bullpens. Over the days we’re going to have more conversations on what he needs and what he needs from us so we can support what he wants to do on the field.

Prior went on to talk about the dialogue that Bauer brings, including his love for analytics within pitching. The hope is that he can work with current Dodgers pitchers to bounce ideas off of one another to improve as a whole.

As for the clubhouse side of things, it sounds like Bauer has quite a few Dodgers players in his corner. We heard from Walker Buehler this week who talked about texting Bauer throughout his free agency process. And on a press call today, Clayton Kershaw discussed what adding him into the mix would look like.

Our clubhouse does a really good job of taking in all types of different personalities and different people and getting the best out of him. And we expect that with Trevor. We’re going to let Trevor be himself and do what he’s continued to do over his career.

If one of the Dodgers’ main leaders is ready to accept Bauer with open arms, chances are he’s going to fit in fine in the clubhouse.
