Dodgers Versus Cubs Postponed, Doubleheader to be Played Tuesday

The rain in Chicago did not slow down as many expected. The Dodgers came into town to start a 3 game series that was supposed to start tonight. Unfortunately, inclement weather has made that nearly impossible.

As a result, the Dodgers and Cubs will postpone the game this evening. Both teams announced that they would play a doubleheader on Tuesday in Chicago. Game 1 will be played at 11:20 am PT with the second coming at 4:40 pm PT. Both of these games will be 7 innings under MLB’s new rules for doubleheaders.

Walker Buehler is still expected to be the starter for game 1 in Chicago and would be going on extra rest. Clayton Kershaw gets the ball for the Dodgers in game 2 on his normal scheduled rest. There is no indication that the Dodgers would change those up for any reason as of now.

The timing of the rain couldn’t be better for the Dodgers bullpen. They had to throw essentially 2 bullpens games with Dustin May going down on Saturday. Getting that extra day of rest in should help balance things out for the week.

On the flip side, the timing couldn’t be worse for offensive momentum. A day after scoring a ton of runs against the Brewers, the bats were probably eager to get back out onto the field. That just means they have to get 2 wins on Tuesday.

  1. In general I don’t like the 7 inning game thing, or any of Manfred’s rule changes. But it could work in the Dodgers favor if both Buehler and Kershaw can go the full 7, which is likely. That will allow two more game days of bullpen recovery, along with an off day on Thursday.
