Dodgers: Victor Gonzalez Goes to the Injured List And Garret Cleavinger is Recalled

The Dodgers will make one more move ahead of Tuesday night’s game in Miami to supplement their bullpen. Los Angeles already added RHP Jake Reed and they will be bringing one more arm to the game against the Marlins.

The Dodgers announced just before game time that Victor Gonzalez was going on the injured list. Gonzalez is apparently dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot, per the team’s press release. This comes just 1 day after Victor gave up the go-ahead homerun in the 8th inning against Miami.

In his place, the Dodgers are recalling Garrett Cleavinger from Triple-A. This is technically his 4th stint with the club after he was optioned last night. Cleavinger carries a 2.03 ERA across 13.1 innings of work, including 15 strikeouts in 15 games. Los Angeles scooped him up in a 3-team trade with the Rays and Phillies last December.

The Dodgers plan on throwing a bullpen game against the Marlins on Wednesday. That comes just a few days after they threw one in Washington DC since Trevor Bauer had to miss his start. He will remain on administrative leave while MLB investigates assault charges against him.

But for now, the Dodgers will proceed without a 5th starter. They did it for a while after Dustin May went down for the year, so the bullpen is likely feeling it at this point. But Los Angeles has been able to successfully cycle veteran arms in and out of the pen to keep guys fresh.

Let’s hope they can keep that going.

  1. I sure didn’t see any thing he did that forced him to go on a injured list. What happened was he blew the game. Self inflicted injury. That is the third time this has happened
